ClassNK-PEERLESS, 3D modeling software for BWMS retrofitting

Regulations for the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2014 are expected to come into force in the next few years, requiring both new and existing vessels to equip Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS). For existing vessels, this means retrofitting BWMS into engine rooms already crowded with pipes and machinery equipment.
ClassNK Consulting Service Co., Ltd. has been released ClassNK-PEERLESS. This software allows users to scan the exact arrangement of structure interiors using 3D laser scanners in order to reproduce highly accurate 3D models almost instantaneously using the vast amount of point cloud data collected from the scanners.

ClassNK-PEERLESS automatically applies standard rules for various ship components, such as pipes, valves, and other fixtures when processing point data of a space such as the engine room to rapidly create highly-accurate 3D models. This 3D data can also be converted into CAD format for the detailed engineering and design plans.
With ClassNK-PEERLESS, we aims to shorten the BWMS retrofitting process from the current 7-10 day period to just 1-2 days.
